Beginning Therapy at Catharsis Psychology and Psychotherapy

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes there is a specific challenge that feels difficult to navigate alone. Other times, there may simply be a sense that something needs attention, reflection, or change.

Clients often begin therapy when experiencing:

  • Anxiety or persistent stress
  • Depression or emotional exhaustion
  • The impact of trauma or difficult life experiences
  • Relationship challenges
  • Grief and loss
  • Burnout or major life transitions
  • Questions around identity or self-understanding

You do not need a diagnosis or a fully defined goal before beginning therapy. The early stages of the process often focus on understanding what has been happening in your life and identifying what support may be helpful moving forward.

What to Expect in Your First Sessions

Initial sessions focus on getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy.

During these conversations, your therapist may explore aspects of your personal history, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, you will begin shaping a process that feels supportive and meaningful.

Therapy at Catharsis is collaborative. Your perspective, comfort, and pace matter throughout the process. You are always welcome to ask questions, share feedback, and reflect on how therapy is unfolding.

Finding the right therapeutic relationship is important, and the early sessions provide space to determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

Complimentary Consultations

If you are considering therapy but would like to speak with someone before scheduling your first appointment, a complimentary consultation is available.

This brief conversation creates an opportunity to:

  • Ask questions about therapy
  • Learn more about our approach
  • Share what you are looking for in support
  • Explore whether working with a Catharsis therapist feels like the right fit

There is no obligation to move forward after the consultation. The goal is simply to help you decide what feels right for you.
