Bilingual Psychotherapist

About Us

We are both women of colour therapists who primarily work with the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) community, immigrants, refugees, amongst other communities. We are allies of the LGBTQ+ community and respect all identities.
We specialize in treating anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, trauma, loss, and chronic stress. We see adolescents, individuals, and couples to work on their presenting concerns.

About the Position

Catharsis Psychology and Psychotherapy requires a bilingual therapist to provide therapy services for individuals and couples.
A part-time independent virtual contractor is expected to see 10–15 clients per week.
All applications are welcomed, but priority will be given to Indigenous Peoples, visible minorities, and women, as they account for the majority of the clients we serve.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French; other languages would be a strong asset
- Registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (in good standing)
- Professional liability insurance (minimum $1 million) through the OAMHP, CCPA, or another reputable organization
- Must provide a Criminal/Vulnerable Persons Check
- Experience or understanding of a subcontractor role and private practice
- Experience working with a variety of clients with psychological concerns including anxiety, depression, suicidality, trauma (race-based, gender-based, sexual, physical, and emotional), family dynamics, disordered eating, amongst other concerns
- Experience working with couples is an asset. Additional experience with individuals and adolescents aged 17+ would be a strong asset
- Experience in long-term therapy, narrative, psychodynamic, and relational counselling approaches would be an asset
- Commitment to inclusive, multicultural services delivered via a strength-based approach
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to handle a large volume of clients
- Experience in providing a range of treatment approaches
- Excellent case conceptualization skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Roles and Duties

- To provide client-centered care as part of a team for clients of Catharsis Psychology and Psychotherapy. The role consists of a combination of clinical and administrative work, including but not limited to:
- Providing psychotherapy (10–15 clients weekly) for youth (ages 15+), adults, and couples
- Conduct consultations and intake assessments for individuals and couples
- Complete appropriate and timely documentation that summarizes the treatment plan in the client’s record, including intake assessment, plan, implementation, and progress notes
- Provide appropriate follow-ups in accordance with the client’s treatment goals, referring clients for a higher level of care when appropriate
- Generate appropriate therapeutic approaches in regard to clients’ presenting concerns
- Maintain psychotherapist registration, liability insurance, and continuing education
- Report clients’ highly dangerous undertakings to the relevant authorities
- Participate in bi-weekly peer case consultation meetings
- Participate in monthly supervision by a clinical psychologist
